01

Where did evil come from?

If God made everything good, how did evil ever begin?

Read the short answer →

Evil did not start with God. When He finished creating, Scripture says:

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”Genesis 1:31

Evil began in the heart of a created being — Lucifer, a perfect angel who chose pride over trust:

“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”Ezekiel 28:15 “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.”Isaiah 14:13

Evil is not something God made. It is what happens when a creature turns away from the Source of all goodness.

02

If God is love, why does He allow suffering?

Can a loving God and a hurting world both be real?

Read the short answer →

God has not watched our pain from a safe distance. He stepped into it Himself:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”John 3:16 “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows.”Isaiah 53:4

And the time He allows before ending it all is not indifference — it is mercy, giving every person a chance to come home:

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise … but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”2 Peter 3:9

Free will and the risk of love

Why real love requires real freedom — and what that freedom costs.

Read the short answer →

God could have made beings who were unable to disobey. But they would also have been unable to love. Love that cannot say no is not love at all. So God gave us a real choice:

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life.”Deuteronomy 30:19 “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.”Joshua 24:15

Freedom made rebellion possible. It also makes trust, friendship, and love with God possible. God judged that love was worth the risk — and then paid the cost Himself at the cross.

Disasters, disease, and death

What about suffering no human chose — earthquakes, cancer, and loss?

The Bible teaches that sin damaged more than human hearts — it wounded creation itself:

“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”Romans 8:22

Not every tragedy is a punishment. When people asked Jesus whether a man was born blind because of someone’s sin, He said no (John 9:3). And for those who die, Jesus offered a gentle word — sleep, with an awakening to come:

“Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.”John 11:11
05

The conflict behind the scenes

“And there was war in heaven” (Revelation 12:7) — the bigger story behind our world’s pain.

Read the short answer →

Scripture pulls back the curtain on a great controversy between Christ and Satan:

“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon … he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”Revelation 12:7, 9 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.”Ephesians 6:12

At the heart of this conflict is a question about God’s character: Is He fair? Is He loving? Can He be trusted? The book of Job shows that what happens on earth is watched by the whole universe — and that God’s answer is being written in real lives, including yours.

06

Will evil ever end?

Is there a final answer — and a day when suffering is gone for good?

Read the short answer →

Yes. The Bible’s answer is not just an explanation — it is a promise:

“He will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.”Nahum 1:9 “Behold, I make all things new.”Revelation 21:5

Once the whole universe has seen what sin really is and who God really is, evil will never rise again. The story that began with “very good” ends that way, too.

If you’re hurting right now

You don’t need every answer today

Sometimes the question isn’t philosophical at all. It’s a diagnosis, a funeral, a betrayal, a night that won’t end. If that’s you, here are a few promises to hold on to.

When your heart is broken
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
When you’re afraid
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee.”
Isaiah 41:10
When you’re exhausted
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
When the waters rise
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee.”
Isaiah 43:2
When you feel forgotten
“Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?”
Psalm 56:8
When the world feels lost
“In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

A prayer for when it hurts

Father, I don’t understand what is happening, and I’m tired of pretending I do. You know every tear I’ve cried. Hold me when I can’t hold on. Give me enough light for today, and the courage to trust You with tomorrow. Remind me that this is not the end of the story. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
